Labratory Facilities

The Laboratory of the Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the North of Vietnam and the Center for Analysis and Testing from the Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the South of Vietnam are capable to analyze soil and water samples, including chemical components of Macro and Trace elements, soil pollutants, defining mechanical, physical properties of soil, clay and construction materials. The work is carried out with modern equipments, meeting standards of various customers.

Capacity in technology – geodesic equipments

The Center is able to carry out designing, construction, inspection and acceptance of the leveling of topographic maps, cadastral maps, geological maps, status maps in the construction planning at all scales.

The Center could undertake the designing and construction of surveyor works for industrial, civil, irrigation and transportation works as well as monitoring of construction deformation.

The Cener is capable of digitizing maps, using software from MapInfo  Corporation  and  Intergraph  Corporation, meeting the technical standards of digitization of topographic maps by the General Administration of Land Survey.

The Center is empowered to set up topographic maps for the designing and construction of industrial, civil, transport, irrigation, road and bridges, construction, planning and renovation of urban areas; establishment of cadastral maps for granting land and land/house use on the national scale.

The Center is equipped with machinery and instruments of high precision including electronic measuring machines, Japanese automatic leveling machines from Topcon, Japan and global GPS Locator from the Federal Republic of Germany.

At present, CWRPI obtains the total of 1012 cadres, civil servants, long-term contracted staffs and employees, of which:

+ Ph.D: 10; Master Degree: 32;

+ University, College: 315;

+ Graduates from Professional Schools and trained workers: 655;

Of which:

- CWRPI head-office includes 41 people: 4 Ph.D, 4 Master Degree, 31 University and College graduates, 2 undergraduates;

- Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the North of Vietnam are employing 316 people including: 3 Ph.D, 12 Master Degree, 91 University and College graduates and 210 trained workers and employees;

- Central Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation are employing 272 including: 2 Ph.D, 6 Master Degree, 58 University and College graduates and 206 trained workers and employees;

- Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the South of Vietnam are employing 367 people including 1 Ph.D, 10 Master Degree, 132 University and College graduates, 224 trained workers and employees;

- Sub-center for Water Resources Monitoring and Forecast includes 15 people

- Sub-center for Services and Consultancy in water resources planning and investigation includes 30 people

 - Sub-Centre for Water Resources Database and Information includes 68 people

- Sun-Center for Water Resources Quality includes 20 people


Capacity in drilling technology and equipment

1. Hydro-geological exploratory drilling

Hydro-geological exploratory drilling aims to study on hydro-geological conditions through the analysis of soil samples, well-loggings and pumping tests.

Exploratory drilling is carried out by auto-operating drilling rig such as YPБ-3AM-500, YPБ-2,5A... CWRPI is able to have exploratory core drilling up to the depth of 500m.

2. Exploitation drilling

Besides the conventional circulation drilling method, CWRPI now makes it mainly available with Dual-Wall Reserve Circulation technology. This method is more applicable for big drilling wells, extracting water from the unconsolidated sediments such as those in the Nam Bo Plain. This technology is widely applied in developed countries thank o its prominent advantages in comparison with the normal drilling technology, that is:   

- Able to drill huge wells 

- Little impact is found in target aquifers due to the little or no clay fluid is used during the drilling.    

- Drilled wells are straight, easy to install pumping machine.

- Increasing extraction capacity of the wells 

DRILLCON, 1БA-15B and YPБ-3AM-500 renovated drilling rigs are used in Dual-Wall Reserve Circulation (by the Division for Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the South of Vietnam). These drilling rigs allow us to drill up to the depth of 500m with the diameter of 800 mm.

3. Geo-engineering foundation surveying drilling

Geo-engineering foundation surveying drilling is carried out by XY-100, XY-1A, YГБ-50M drilling rigs. The possible depth of drilling could be from 100 to 150 m. All the three Divisions of the Center are able to operate this kind of drilling on even river, lake and shallow sea as well as carry out on site tests with the Technical standard of ASTM, BS...

Capacity in technology – geophysical equipment

1. Well-logging

The Center is capaple to use American digital MGX-II equipment to define precisely the geological stratum, positions of aquifers/ aquitards and water quality by interpreting the parameters including electrical resistivity of surrounding soil, mud and point resistance, radioactivity intensity, temperature, borehole diameter… and able to measure the borehole with the depth up to 700m.

2. Electrical sounding

This work aims to identify the boundary between unconsolidated sediments and bedrock, determining the boundaries of salty water – fresh water in terms of the area and the depth, searching for potential  aquifers in unconsolidated sediments, basalt, weathered and cracked bedrock. In addition, geophysical electrical sounding shall also help effectively for geological  surveys  and  environmental  studies

3. Survey on the operation of drilled wells

Capacity in data and information processing

1. Application of professional software in processing of information, integrated groundwater management

CWRPI is capable of using variety of professional software such as three applications of Visual MODFLOW including: MODFLOW, MODPATH and MT3D, GMS (Groundwater Modeling System) software including Graphic interface and 9 other applications (MODFLOW, MT3DMS, RT3D, SEAM3D, MODPATH, SEEP2D, FEMWAER, NUFT and UTCHEM). Besides, Rockwork, Groundwater for Windows, AquiferTest, MapInfor... are useful tools for processing data, researching and integrated groundwater management.

2. IT equipments

All the three Divisions belonging to the CWRPI are equipped with most modern computer network, connecting with high speed Internet. Besides, CWRPI also possesses professional printing equipments such as map-digitizing table, A0 plotter, color lazer printers to generate good-looking and high quality products.
